All you need to know about types Of Stainless-Steel: Stainless Steel Types, Grades & Prices.
What is Stainless-Steel?
The term ‘stainless steel’ can be used to indicate to a variety of different iron-based alloys that is, any related alloy infused with a minimum of 10.5% chromium can be said to be stainless steel. This amount can vary. Adding other materials such as nickel, molybdenum, carbon and manganese, results in diverse kinds of stainless steel with suitability to various applications.
Applications of Steel
Stainless steel is tough and versatile. It is extraordinarily robust, scratch resistant, and does not easily rust, corrode, or stain. It can also be easily cleaned and decontaminated. Its alloys get most of their properties from the consistent protection offered by a layer of chromium oxide. This protective layer makes the steel resistant to oxidation, a corrosive reaction that occurs when oxygen and iron react with molecules in the air. If in any instance the chromium oxide layer is scratched, it can easily regain its form again as well as resist cracking, giving that exceptional amount of resilience mentioned earlier. Manufacturers use stainless steel to make a huge variety of products. In addition to an array of practical applications, the use of stainless-steel spans over a wide range of industries, from engineering and construction, stainless-steel can also be used in smaller projects like elevator doors, gutters. It also has larger-scale applications like in skyscrapers.
Maven steels has had the opportunities to work with a multitude of steel retailers and as a major exporter and manufacturer our experience in the industry is what differentiates us from other manufacturers. Our decades of experience bring this list of the various different kinds of steel and its multiple applications.
Steel is generally found in 4 distinct categories:
- Austenitic: The austenitic grade consists of the most common types of stainless steel. Austenitic stainless steels, in collocation with other types, it contains high levels of chromium, molybdenum, and nickel. It is highly adaptable and is well-known for its excellent strength and malleability.
- Ferritic: It comprises about 10.5% to 30% chromium, ferritic stainless steels generally have a low carbon consistency of not more than 0.1%. Ferritic stainless steels are magnetic and are mostly chosen for their resistance to temperature oxidation and corrosion cracking.
- Duplex: Duplex stainless steel is a combination of austenitic and ferritic steel, resulting in a metal that is stronger than both: this increased strength leads to a remarkable weight reduction. Its extraordinary resistance to corrosion, even in demanding environments, make it perfect for use in marine applications.
- Martensitic: Although it is structurally similar to ferritic stainless steel but has more carbon content (approximately 1.2%), Martensitic stainless steel can be hardened to a greater degree than other varieties. They are especially useful in medical applications and making surgical instruments.
The kind of steel you want to use entirely depends upon its application and the project. Selecting the optimum variety is absolutely essential. Contact us for all kinds of quality steel, with our cutting edge technology, you get the real steel for all your needs!
